Override types

Pre-requisite overrides - department, Registrar

When adding a prerequisite override, it may at times be more helpful to the student to omit the CRN and instead type in the Subject and Course Number. This will allow students to adjust their schedule based on their preferred meeting pattern. Of course, use conventions established by your department when considering this method.

The Registrar’s Office can add pre-requisite overrides upon request from the academic advisor or the academic department. Entry by the department is preferred.

Department overrides - department only

The Department override provides permission to take a section of a course due to the following restrictions: instructor, field of study (major), degree, college, classification, level.

The Registrar’s Office can enter Department overrides only with written permission of the instructor/department. Entry by the department is preferred.

Capacity overrides - department only

Only the department offering the course can enter a Capacity override.

The Registrar’s Office can enter Capacity overrides only with written permission of the instructor/department. Entry by the department is preferred.

Time conflict overrides - Registrar only

Students should submit a Course Conflict Resolution form using the Registrar Support form or drop off in person. The form must be signed by both instructors for whose classes the time conflict occurs. If one signature is missing, do not process, and inform the student they need the second signature.

In SFASRPO, enter a TIME Permit for the CRN that needs to be added.

If the request was made via email, reply to confirm.

Repeat overrides - Registrar, form

Students should submit a Course Repeat Permission form. Once approved by the advisor, it is automatically pulled into Banner.

The Registrar’s Office can enter Repeat overrides upon request by the advisor due to technical complications with the form.

All other overrides

All other overrides should only be used by the Registrar’s Office.

Entering overrides

In the SFASRPO key block, enter the student ID and Term. Go.

Enter the type of override. Clicking the lookup button on the Permit field will display all overrides options and their codes.

Academic departments should only use CAPACITY, DEPARTMENT, and PRE-REQ overrides.

Enter the CRN. If you don’t know the CRN, you can enter the subject, course, and section number, which will auto-fill the CRN. Save.
